Once the Perma-Plate protection
system has been professionally applied to your new
vehicle, just normal maintenance will keep it in tip-top
shape. Over the years,
we've collected some simple maintenance tips and hints
that we'd like to pass along. Here
are a few:
EXTERIOR
Wash painted finish with
mild, non-abrasive cleaners such as Perma-Plate Wash
concentrate. Rinse away
all loose dirt with plenty of water before sponging on
soapy solution. Rinse
out the cloth or sponge frequently while washing the
vehicle to avoid scratching the finish with dirt or
grit. Rinse the vehicle
thoroughly while suds are still wet. Dry
immediately using a clean, damp chamois to avoid water
spotting. Using a towel
or dry chamois should be avoided for it may scratch your
vehicle’s paint.
If you use a commercial car wash,
look for one that uses a touch-less
system, where nothing but liquids come in contact with
the paint. Some wash
systems utilize harsh brushes and even some soft-scrub
systems (sometimes called brushless) can scratch the
finish.
Perma-Plate
Paintguard treatment should be applied every six
months or 7500 miles, whichever occurs first.
This will maintain the
integrity of the protective seal of the Perma-Plate
Paintguard while cleaning the surface and revitalizing
the shine. Perma-Plate
Paintguard forms a light,
cohesive film which resists detergents, salt, and
ultraviolet rays which can affect the painted surface.
If you use a commercial bug or tar
remover, read the instructions carefully, then try it
out on an inconspicuous area first.
You can help maintain the finish
on your car by parking and driving wisely.
Try not to park under
trees, where bird droppings or sap, which are highly
acidic, can fall onto your car and damage the paint.
If either of these
substances get onto your finish, wash if off
immediately. Try to park
upwind from industrial areas. If
you get cement dust or fly ash on your car from any fire
or smokestack, rinse it off immediately.
When you drive, keep a
reasonable distance when following another vehicle to
avoid running into stones thrown up by that car’s tires,
which can scratch or chip the paint.
If you get a scratch or chip in the finish,
use touch-up paint to avoid exposing the bare metal to
the elements. If left
unprotected, the metal will begin to rust.
INTERIOR
CARPET AND
UPHOLSTERY. Perma-Plate
Fiberguard is specially
formulated to coat the individual fibers of your carpet
and upholstery. It seals
against stains from spills and surface dirt while
allowing the fabric to breathe and retain its natural
softness.
Vacuum carpet and upholstery
frequently to avoid soiling from surface dirt build up.
This will also prolong
the life of the fabric because the dirt acts as an
abrasive contributing to premature wear.
Although a spill may penetrate the
fabric to some extent, it will be suspended in the tiny
air spaces between the weave of the fibers, all you have
to do is bring it out. Liquid
spills should be blotted up as soon as possible.
Use a terry towel or
other absorbent cloth, pressing firmly and repeatedly,
changing to dry sections of the towel as needed, until
all wetness is removed. Dilute
with water if necessary. If
any discoloration remains, spray lightly with
Perma-Plate Fiberguard Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner or
a home made solution of vinegar and water.
Continue to blot the
area dry and then brush with a towel to blend with
surrounding areas. For
spills and spots that have dried, spray the spot
thoroughly until wet with cleaning solution described
above and follow the same blotting procedure. If the
spot is deep, wet it again and blot completely.
Let the area dry.
If the spot reappears, repeat washing and
blotting procedure until all of the substances comes up.
Don’t scrub.
You may get the spot out
and have a frayed or discolored eyesore in its place.
Crayon can be removed using a warm
iron and a paper bag or several paper towels.
Place bag or towels over area and set iron
on top of it. The heat
will draw wax into the paper. Repeat
with clean sections until all of the crayon is removed.
Aerosol acts as a carrier and will
bond with ink from a ball point pen. Spray
generously with an aerosol hair spray and ink will be
liquified and easily blotted up. Rinse
area with water to remove any residue from hair spray.
Should your carpet and upholstery
require shampooing, it is recommended that you use a
steam cleaner/extractor. This method liquifies the soil
trapped in the air spaces of the fabric for easy removal
by the extractor.
LEATHER, VINYL AND DASH.
The Perma-Plate
Leatherguard product preserves and protects non-fabric
upholstery against fading and discoloration which can
lead to cracking. This
conditioner provides a durable, detergent resistant,
glossy protectant which guards against the fading,
drying and shrinking caused by temperature extremes and
the ultra-violet rays of the sun. |
